Revisiting the Epic
Christopher Nolan’s film of The Odyssey ignited a number of surprisingly hot debates around classical epics and how we interpret them today. Join Dr. James Oakley, a research fellow in Classical Languages and Literature, and poets Cai Tianxin and Spencer Mason to discuss the enduring popularity of the epic form, the different ways in which its tropes have been understood over centuries and what spoken word can teach us about the orality of the epics.
