States of Emergency: Writing the Plague

Join Polly Atkin and Niall O’Gallagher for a double bill, reading from two collections which explore solitude and connection in a time of plague.

Niall O’Gallagher will be sharing translations from his upcoming Gaelic novella-in-verse Litreachan Plàighe (Plague Letters), extracts of which have been specially translated for the festival by Deborah Moffatt. Niall was awarded a Scottish Book Trust Ignite Fellowship to complete the collection, which is told through a series of letters.

Polly Atkin’s Emergency Dream grows out of the entangled emergencies of our times: social, political and personal. The years of the pandemic are reconfigured as though seasons of a TV show, in poems which insistently centre disabled joy and disabled rage.
