Julie Laing

Julie Laing is a writer and artist from Glasgow. Her debut collection of visual poetry, some possible endings & beginnings, was published in 2026 with Art Riot Press and her pamphlet, the edge of rhizome, came out with Red Squirrel Press in 2025. Her work has appeared in Magma, New Writing Scotland, Gutter and Studies in Photography. She won the 2023 William Bonar Poetry Prize and the Wigtown Poetry Prize 2022. Her poem ‘livestream, hope street’ was selected as one of the Scottish Poetry Library’s Best Scottish Poems in 2022. Her photography solo show was held at Edinburgh’s Agitate Gallery in 2024, and her visual art has been exhibited in group shows including The Scottish Landscape Awards and Street Level Open.
