Edinburgh Shanty Co. started singalong sea-shanty nights (known as Edinburgh Shanty Night) in March 2025, and have since become a staple of the community music scene in Edinburgh. Captained by Adam Muir and with Julia Koenig at the helm, these events invite everyone to get together and sing sea shanties both historic and new. With no experience necessary as they're so easy to pick up, the events are an accessible and low-pressure way to explore this traditional style of music, no matter whether or not someone has a seafaring background! Every event is rooted in the belief that there are few things you can do that make you feel better than just getting together and singing a few songs. Earlier this year, the group wrote and recorded original sea songs and shanties, hoping to inspire others to bring along their own songs to shanty nights. edinburghshantynight.com
