Charlotte van den Broeck

Charlotte Van den Broeck (Belgium, 1991) is a poet and writer. She studied Literature at Ghent University and Drama at the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp. In 2015, she made her poetry debut with Chameleon, which was awarded the Herman De Coninck Prize. For her subsequent collections, Nachtroer (2017) and The Inside of a Stone (2021), she received the Paul Snoek Prize and the Karel van de Woestijne Prize. In her bestselling prose debut Bold Ventures (Chatto & Windus, 2021) she researches the lives of thirteen tragic architects. In 2025, she was awarded the Boekenbon Literature Prize for A Flame of Thylacines, a travel essay tracing the footsteps of the extinct animal, in which she reflects on ecological mourning, hope, decolonisation in natural history collections, and the tensions between science, truth and narrative.
